Dynesis and fusion
Aug 28, 2012
... ectomy. Some years later I my pain began to increase and I was unable to stand for more than a few minutes and was always in pain so my consultant suggested the dynesis procedure to provide more stability. He said if it didn't work I'd be no worse off and if I didn't have it done, I would only get worse. ... (2 replies)
... Yes, most of us have this problem after surgery. Very common problem from the meds. You should discuss this with your doctor and let him/her know this is a major problem for you and they need to provide you with a regimen(meds, diet program, etc) for you to follow to a "T" post op. I have lived with this problem most of my life. I have learned to eat properly and getting... (13 replies)

... Anybody experience this surgery. I had the procedure done about 3 and a half months ago; I now feel about the same as before and, according to my doctor, will hopefully progress more the next 3 months. I was curious as to how others have fared with this procedure I have DDD for about 10 years (according to MRI, moderate loss of disc height, dissecation, stenosis, 4mm... (0 replies)

... Hi, Pamela & Zinnias I'm curious as to EXACTLY what both of you had done. For instance, in MY case, I had a PLIF at L5/S1 using a cage and rods a few years back. That hardware is now gone and a very stable fusion had taken place within the year. A year ago this last October I had the dynesis "hardware" placed at L4/5 & L3/4. At 4/5 he placed a cage in place of the... (38 replies)

... *sigh* in a nutshell . . . . . . . . . . 3/02? Fusion L5/S1 - Fused solidly, hdw removed 10/06 Fusion at L3/4 & 4/5 using Dynesis hdw but a cage at 4/5 hopefully to attain solid fusion at that level and "soft" fusion at 3/4. Numerous nerve root injections and ESI's - last ones ESI at L3 and nerve root injection at L5. Both helped for a time. Bad discs at T11 thru L2/3... (3 replies)
... Thanks for the pointer, I'll search Dynesis and learn more about it. It makes sense that that it may cause too much movement and thus loosen the screws. ... (54 replies)
... I had a procedure done over two years ago called Dynesis. Where they had put flexible metal rods in my spine to stabilise the spine as the L5 had collapsed and was sitting on my nerve. January of this year had a screw removed from the S1 area as it was not fixed. I do believe it was very close to my nerve root hence random paralysis in right leg. Since then I have been... ... If I am understanding your post, they put screws in but did not do anything to fuse the spine? I don't understand what the point of that is...since the hardware is not designed to hold your spine in place indefinitely. Eventually the screws will loosen or work their way out, or even break. As this happens, there is a likelihood for instability...which ends up resulting in... (2 replies)

... I had 2 discs removed 21 years ago and 8 screws inserted 10 years ago, 4 of which were replaced 8 years ago. I have had nothing but pain since, had numerous epidurals, pain management therapy and am constantly popping pills to keep going. I am due another review by my consultant and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what my prognosis is? I've been told that they took... (2 replies)

Fusion of L5/S1, removal of hdwr at L5/S1 and Dynesis at L3/4 and plif at L4/5 at the same time. Was having HORRIBLE right leg pain prior to the 2 level 3/4 & 4/5. Had the surgery and was better for a time and then came back with a... (16 replies)
... Some surgical options: open discectomy incision cuts thru muscle and ligamentum flavum, surgeon can see the herniation under direct vision, cuts off the bulged annulus, scar tissue seals the disc, longer recovery. closed discectomy no cutting of muscle-instead they push it aside and go thru it, need an endoscope and a TV to see the bulge, increased chance of not... I am a 44 year old male with 4 back surgeries (Yipee!). 2 discectomies at L5-S1, had a Dynesis 2 years ago at L5-S1 (that failed), and a double level fusion L5-L4 March 17, 2007.
