... Safiredream- Sitting was the last thing in my recovery from microdiskectomy. But, I was back at my desk job part-time by 6 weeks. I didn't have any spasms, though, so maybe you just need more time. Everyone heals at a different rate, so don't take others' experiences as gospel. ... Summerset- You have a herniated disk, which is more than likely causing the pain down your leg. Most herniations will heal themselves with time. Take advil (motrin) for your pain, and try not to overdo anything. I would also suggest walking and alternating ice and heat. Don't do anything that makes the pain worse. ... I've been taking 1200mg/day Neurontin for 6 months now and haven't experienced any of the side effects you all mention. Wrinkles! I can't believe that could be from the neurontin, but what do I know? I believe it has helped me with the aggravating (but not painful) pins and needles in the bottom of my foot, but if I develop wrinkles, I will quit it in an instant!!! ... (7 replies)

... Sheila- I don't know what the 'spots' could be, but wanted to welcome you to the boards. In the early stages of back pain, it's best to rest, ice and take it easy. If your husband is overweight, now would be a good time to lose that extra weight. Have him start walking and strengthening his abs and back muscles. ... All I know is everytime I see the neuro he makes comments like 'Well, at least you're not overweight', or "you don't have to lose any weight'. I am still thin, but have lost all my muscle tone due to inactivity. I agree with the others that you want to put as little strain on your back as possible, and if you have a large stomach, it would probably help to get rid of that. ... (11 replies)
