... i have had to have three EMGs over the past five years and i can tell you from my experience alone that if you have significant muscle atrophy it hurts more than where you do not have it.my first and second ones were a bit painful but not really intolerable at all,but this third round where alot of my musle has deteriorated from various reasons,those spots hurt like hell,but... ... Hi All, I had a EMG/NCV last week and seen the spine specialist on Friday. He said he wants to do a mylogram now because it shows that the S1 is compressed. My history is last August another specialist operated on my L4-L5 for spinal stenosis and performed a lamenectomy. He was to remove my buldging discs at the same location but he just did not. ... Hi BOO I am scheduled for an emg in July-can you tell me if this HURTS ?? I am all nervous thinking about it...some say it hurts...and how long does it last ? also is your tingling, numbness pain there all of the time ? or just some of the time ? in other words does it come and go ?? like good days and bad days..my pain sounds the same as yours... thanks GraN (5 replies)

... Have them do an EMG. A neuro usually does these. That will tell if a nerve is hung up, any nerve damage. This could be caused by either the arthritis or the herniations. They need to narrow it down. Since the ESI's didn't help, they are narrowing down the possibility of it just being inflammation. You have a structural problem. ... when I had my EMG (for left arm weakness) the doc started in my arm and went all the way up to my neck. The results showed I had a severely pinched nerve at c5-c6. If you have a problem with your neck, I would certainly get a new test done that actually checks that area! Good Luck, carrie (5 replies)
