... Steve, I think you need a second opinion as soon as you can get one....from a spine specialist. It sounds like you might have a ruptured disc, and possibly some serious nerve damage. The longer you wait, the more serious the problem becomes and yes, it can lead to disability, etc. I am concerned about the genital numbness; do you have any problems with urination at all?... ... I should probably add that our bodies are not marked off in perfect segments such as in shown on dermatome charts. An L5 nerve compression can cause a great deal of pain in the lower pelvic/genital area. All the nerves, ligaments, tendons in this area are so closely located that it can be difficult to tease out which thing is causing the pain/numbness. (2 replies)
