... Hi all For those who dont know I recently was diagnosed with a bulge at L3/L4 having previously had surgery in 1990 (spinal fusion at L4/L5 and L5/S1). After resting for a week or 2 I commenced hydroherpay and within weeks had made excellent progress. I had reduced my pain meds and was well on the way to recovery or so I thought. Unfortunatley this week things have... (0 replies)
... Looking for any help!!!!!! I had my spinal fusion at the L5-S1 in September 2004. The surgery did help the alleviate the problems I was experiencing, however, I have developed pain in other areas of my lower back. I now have unbearable pain in my tailbone when I sit or try to stand up from a sitting position. I had a CT Mylogram done in June 2006. Bulging disc at... (5 replies)
... I am fused from L3 to S1 and am pleased with the results. It did take three surgeries to resolve my pain...but finally they figured out the source of my pain, and resolved it. ... (7 replies)

L5/S1 fusion
Mar 11, 2013
... It is always a good idea to get more than one opinion before agreeing to such a big surgery. There are different ways to approach a fusion and different surgeons may have slightly different ideas of how your issue is best resolved. Regarding recovery time...it is really hard to say. Some people are able to recover fairly quickly from a one level fusion while others are... (8 replies)
... I seem to recall that I spoke with you through this board some time ago (last year)...you gave me advice about this and that. I thank you for that if I didn't back then. Broh, WC is a criminal organization. The injured of Cali and the rest of the Union need to force reform. Start with Arnold's office. So, how are you doing? I was forced into an AME situation. What a... (13 replies)
L5 S1 nerve damage
Sep 25, 2007
... I have been waiting for some action to be taken since my surgery in September 2005. I have nerve damage to the S1, L5, L4 and possibly the L3. I am fused from L4 to S1. I came out of surgery with urinary retention and bowel retention and no one seems to care. ... (13 replies)
... S1 to L3. My surgeon was going to do the 360 but changed his mind feeling that he could accomplish stabilization posterely alone. I fused really good except at L3 L4 so revision surgery was in order....this was done this past May and it was a 360. ... (6 replies)
... S1 and L4 fused so the fusion will be from S1 to L3. I think i have a great surgeon. i don't know if it is okay to post a doctors name here but his name is James C. Weis with the OAA group in Allentown PA. ... (7 replies)
... S1 and L4 are flat and have both bone and disc matter closing off the nerve canal and putting pressure on the nerves to both legs. Not fun. ... (7 replies)
... I have had two posterior surgeons -- the first was at L4-L5 done with a cage...and the second which added on L3-L4 and L5-S1 was done without cages, leaving the discs in place. This is the old way that fusion was always done, with the bone graft just laid in along the "gutter." My guess would be it is done the same way with the TLIF. You should be fine. Just be very... ... S1 segment. This is typical coming from a nerve at L3 or L4, sometimes L2. The L5 nerve innervates the outside of the calf down into the foot and the 3 middle toes. ... (3 replies)
... After 2 back surgeries in the last 2 1/2 years including July 2010 TLIF failed lumbar fusions L4-5, L5 S1, with severe back pain and acute achy legs. After drug eluting coronary stent 3 months ago, I have been cleared for a redo. Orthopedist wants to do 2 phase surgeries, anterior/posterior ALIF and decompression of L3-4. Is this overkill, and I first have to detox from... (6 replies)
... What surgical options are you being given? I think I have an idea, but would be curious what your doctor thinks. I've been in your boat. Had a microdiscectomy at L5-S1 in Oct 2008 (was 36 at the time), and am scheduled for L3-S1 fusion 10 days from this post. Get a second opinion, especially for surgery. It doesn't hurt to get an independent set of eyes. As for the... (8 replies)

... Haven't posted in a while but am now 12 days post-op from my second spine surgery in under 2 years. Previously I had a fusion at L3/4 with a disc replacement at L4/5, so now I've added a Dynesys stabilisation over the disc replacement (which was left in) and a decompression and fusion (without bone) below at L5/S1. The X rays are pretty ugly and confusing when I'm trying to... (3 replies)
