... Hi Everyone I'm new here, and have lots of questions. Hope someone can answer them for me. I am having L5-S1 PLIF on 11/8/06. Needless to say my neuro says one thing about the recovery, and what I am reading here, I am learning quite the opposite, or really what I imagine the recovery must be. I live alone, and my children are all out on their own. My children asked if I... (19 replies)

... I had surgery on January 17th 2011, one level PLIF fusion at L5-S1 with titanium cage, rods and screws. My original pain is gone and I am able to work out and walk with no pain, but I can't stand for more than 15-20 minutes without extreme pain. I get extremely stiff and I feel like there is a brick in my back. As soon as I go sit down, the pain goes away. Could this be from... (1 replies)

... Hi lala Thanks for your response. I read your posts, and congrats on your new baby! I know the recovery is going to be tough, but reading everyone's threads and posts, and the responses I have received have been very informative. Had pre-op testing today, it went well, and the staff at the hospital were very helpful. I was told that after the surgery I'll go to recovery... (19 replies)

... My mother was recently referred to a Albany, NY area neurosurgeon who recommended she have a L3-4, L4-5, L5-S1 Posterior lumbar interbody fusion. When the doctor who had been injecting her back heard about the procedure, he called her at home on his day off (which meant a lot to her, she is a former RN) and said he knew of the neurosurgeon and knew her condition, and felt... ... Monas, I had fusion L5/S1, posterior with screws and rods. It is a bit unnerving not to be Xrayed and to be "done" with it already. I am the only one on the board so far that I've seen to be let go this early, with no films. The only thing I can say, is that my doctor has been so conservative (up until now!)with my recovery....I didn't get into a car at all for... (12 replies)

... XLIF CANNOT be done at the L5-S1 level because there is no access to the area due to the hip being in the way. That is why he suggested the PLIF for you at L5-S1 and the XLIF for the L4-5. Hope this helps you understand why he is doing two different procedures. Good Luck with your surgery. I saw a spine specialist 2/8/13 for a second opinion regarding my severe... (22 replies)
