... This is my first post ever in a thread regarding this type of pain....All I seem to see are negative results in all the online blogs. I hope there are more positive outcomes than negatives but that they are out enjoying life like it once was instead of complaining like the rest of us haha. I am only 27 years old and had lower back surgery for a ruptured L5-S1 on October... (1 replies)
... I can really sympathize with you. I had a laminectomy/discectomy at L4-5 and a ruptured disc at L5-S1. The operation did not do anything for me, the pain seems to be worse now than before the surgery. One thing I can say to you is that you have to make it clear to your nurses and then the doctor that you are still in a tremendous amount of pain. I called them every other... (12 replies)

Anyway here it goes........ I stepped in a hole in my backyard back in March of this year (2004) stumbled, twisted and fell....... (12 replies)

... Hi all... I'm new to this thread and to the group as of today. I just had the same surgery as you did TexasWildRose04 - I had a Laminectomy at L5-S1 and debris removal around the disk, which was extruded. This was done after much thought and as much research as I could do in 3 weeks - as I tried the injections of steroid epidurals with no help at all. That made me EXTREMELY... (5 replies)
... Well...My neuro sent me to surgeon on Feb 2. Surgeon said I had to have l5-s1 removed as it is reducing my thecal sac by 50%! He did say he would have to cut some bone but would remove the whole disk. Same thing he said the scar tissue would form and that was all that would be done. I have asked in several posts here and on another med site about laminectomy/discectomy and... (14 replies)
... I'm now 16 days post op. Sciatica is still gone completely, but sleeping and getting up and going in the am is absolutely horrific. No change in the low back pain I have when I wake up. Back feels like it is out as soon as I get up. All it takes is reaching to the sink and I will get the severe sharp pain in my left lower back. It almost brings me to my knees. I struggle... ... :( YOUR DOC DOESN'T BELIEVE IN PAIN MEDS. You are the patient and if painkillers will give you relief, find a Doc that will give you a script. There is no reason for you to be in pain and uncomfortable. Have this doctor validate why he/she doesn't believe in painkillers and why you should have to deal with pain. (14 replies)
... Hi, I'm 37 years old, post op 1 week from total laminectomy/discectomy at L5-S1. My surgeon believes in removing the entire disc so that there is a not a chance of recurrence of herniation. I did not have fusion. He said my body will form its own scar in that space. I had severe sciatica in my left leg for many months. I no longer have sciatica pain; however now my back... (14 replies)
... I had a discectomy of L5-S1 (9mm herniation) on May 19th. I was doing great but about two weeks afterwards I was doing some stretching and I felt a pop in my lower back. I had another MRI done and it turns out that I have another slight herniation and a fair amount of scar tissue pushing on the nerve. The combo of the two is producing pain way worse than before I had... (12 replies)
... I had a Discectomy/Laminectomy at L5-S1 back in June 2004...and my Neurosurgeon told me that IF I had a desk job, I could return after 6 weeks... NO sooner... and sitting is one of the worst things you can do for your back, and especially after a surgery of this type....because they told me that when you sit it puts atleast 40 pounds extra pressure on that disc... So returning... (5 replies)
... Hi Texas :) I'm so sorry to hear about your condition. I have a recurrent herniattion at l5/s1. I have had 2 surgeries for this exact same thing. i found out after a month of getting worse after the first operation that i had Chips from the first operation against the nerves. ... Keep your head up. I was 22 years old when I went through back surgery at L4-L5. I had two within 5 weeks because the first one failed for one reason or another. I can honestly say that it took a year after my surgery to finally start to feel normal again. I still have some back aches, but I function and I do fairly phyiscal work. I am now just about 28 and it's been 6 years... (1 replies)
... I've been having these problems, although not for this long, for 15 years. Before when I had these pains it would last for 3 to 4 days then be gone. Its my L5 disk. Im the kind of person that hates to go to the Dr. for anything unless I get told to go. I'm taking Ibuprophen 800 and Vicodin ES for the pain. ... (3 replies)

L5-S1 Discectomy

... Hi - I had a discectomy/laminectomy Jan. 26th for L5-S1 and immediately after the surgery I was pain free and have been ever since. I had developed a DROP FOOT on the right as complications from the ruptured disc and I'm still dealing with that. I underwent a 2nd discectomy/laminectomy for L4-L5 September 15th and again, so far, lots of success. I'm now in physical therapy... (5 replies)
... If this were a three-act play, with Act I being problem and diagnosis, Act II being information collection leading to a decision, and Act III being surgery and recovery, I would be one of those in the Second Act. It is a lonnnnnng Act, with many players entering and leaving, and long internal discussions about the pros and cons of surgery. My formal diagnosis is foraminal... (185 replies)
