... Update from Pain Management Doc visit. I had a chat about my current pain symptoms and discomfort and review of my pain relief from my last c-spine facet-joint nerve block, which worked well for me. The news now is that I have to have a bilateral sacroilliac nerve block and also a block for the facet joints L4/L5 (right side - maybe left side too - they'll know more when... (12 replies)
... Hi there, Following an MRI, my pain specialist has written the following to my Doctor: 'This is an update of the MRI lumbar sacral spine. It shows Scheuermann’s disease in the lower thoracic and upper lumbar spine. There are degenerative disc changes at L5/S1 with disc herniation and impingement on the left sided exiting nerve root' I am schedule to have two facet... (10 replies)
... Hi there I'm fairly new to the boards! I was hoping for a little feedback from others living with Scheuermann's Kyphosis, especially in terms of associated chronic pain. I was put on valium on-and-off for muscle spasms in my upper back when I was 12yrs old. It was only when my GP was carrying out a physical exam when I was 20, that he told me that I had curvature of the... (12 replies)

... Hi there. I am relatively new to the boards here. I am 40 yrs old and was diagnosed with Scheuermanns Kyphosis when I was in my mid-teens (nothing done about it though - not even a back brace, just a "have a nice day, bye now". I also have a slight scoliosis. In 2011 I had excruciating pain like migraine accompanied by neuralgia symptoms that left me totally debilitated... (8 replies)

... Just a quick question. I have a few conditions going on with my back - early dx of Scheuermanns Kyphosis, mild scoliosis, along with more recent ddd of C-spine at C2-C3 with occipital neuralgia and also ddd in lumbar spine L5-S1 and bulging disc L4-L5. I get facet joint and sacroiliac injections by x-ray guidance. I get severe pain in back - referred pain from sciatica and... (3 replies)
... Usually a course of physical therapy goes along with injections. There is no "one size fits all" exercise to strengthen muscles of the back and core, which are so important to stabilize the spine, improve structural alignment, etc. but you need to know you are doing exercises that help, not hurt. You have to be careful about pushing yourself when in pain or doing... (10 replies)
... Hi teteri66, Is that what the steroid injection does, shrink the herniated bit of the disc? I didn't know that. Yes, it is strange. Although the facet joint injections were booked in before the MRI, I would have thought they would be reviewed in light of the new information. But that seems to be have been missed for some reason. I will try and find out a bit more about... (10 replies)
... Since the Scheuermann's disease has not been a problem in the past, the L5-S1 disc herniation must be at least partially responsible for your symptoms. Hopefully the steroid injection will shrink the herniation to the point that it will move off the nerve and provide some relief. I'm glad the doctor listened to you but I don't understand why this wasn't addressed to... (10 replies)
... Facet joint injection on the right side has had no effect on the pain. I have an injection booked for the other side next month, but given the MRI has revealed nerve impingement on the left side of the L5S1 joint I asked if another type of injection, a selective nerve root block (SNRB), would be more appropriate. Doc agreed and has changed the treatment plan. I am really... (10 replies)
... thanks for the tip, Teteri66. I been on my back (or side) for a couple of days and nights, but I have a journey to make later on today that is unavoidable. My back is sore today. My GP prescribed Naproxen, but I am not sure it is having much effect. It's not too bad though - more uncomfortable than painful. When I speak to my doctor I'll ask him to talk me through the... ... If you can, try to stay off your feet as much as possible for a total of 72 hours post injection. You will get the maximum out of the steroid by being inactive. You can use ice or a cold gel pack over the joint, 15-20 minutes per hour, round the clock, if needed, for pain. Just be sure to protect the skin. (10 replies)
