Best mineral makeup
Aug 14, 2007
what is the best mineral foundation - i want something that gives great coverage and can be layered without looking caked on - i tried loreal bare naturale and found it looked too cakey
I use youngblood cosmetics. I had my makeup for my wedding done at a salon and this is what they used. I have been using it for a year now. I buy it online along with their eyeliner and I love it! Cant even tell I have it on, but evens out my skin tone with a little color.
I didn't care for Loreal either.. I could also feel it on my face. I currently use Bare Minerals. You should check out a place like Sephora where you can test them out first and make sure it works for you skin! What works for some may not work for another. Good luck!
I tried Bare Minerals, unfortunately it dried my face up terribly.I really like L'Oreal Bare Naturale. I've been using it for about a year now, and it does not dry my skin. I also bought Laura Mercier Mineral powder. This foundation goes on so beautiful, it lasts all day and feels like silk. :)
That's so funny how one product works for one person and another doesn't, and it's vice versa for somebody else! I use a skin primer on my face before putting on my makeup so maybe that helps prevent dryness (I use Benefit Dr Feel Good) and I moisurize before putting that on as well.

I also forgot to mention that I like Mineral Basics. I don't know anywhere to buy them except for online. I just got the Medium color (I usually wear one of the lighter shades but medium was recommended for most) and it came in a set with different products. I actually got it for only $20 something for the whole set from the Bare Mineral store from a popular bidding website. I will probably buy this after I use up my Bare Minerals because it was a lot cheaper. Now at least I have all the brushes I need (getting a good brush makes a big difference). For an absolutely flawless look I would use my regular foundation (Covergirl Aquasmooth was what I used) and then apply a light dusing of mineral makeup OVER it. My skin looked great!
I like Bare Minerals, it's the only kind i've tried tough. It's a bit expensive, but it lasts a long time for me.
I have tried Bare Escentuals, Mineral Basics, Mineral Secrets, Lloreal, Physicians Formula, Jane & more I'm sure I can't think of. The one I like best so far is Herbal Basics (bought online). I'm very fair with oily skin & acne and their Light Rose color has extra coverage so it's perfect for me. I do like the Physicians Formula Mineral Veil so I will probably keep buying that. As for primer, someone suggested to me to try Monistat Anti Chafe gel, as it has the same silicone based ingredients, but is much cheaper! Works just as well as the $25 Laura Geller Spackle I was using!

I never post but I had to respond! The BEST mineral makeup that I have tried is Laura Mercier Mineral Makeup. I love, love it. I get great coverage that is almost creamy...I have blotchy skin and I have recieved more compliments since using this makeup. I've tried many others...Bare Minerals, PurMinerals, Jane Iredale, Glominerals, etc, etc...:D more thing...I also use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer underneath...
The first one I used was Jane Iredale out of a compact and I wasn't terribly impressed.

I've used Bare Mineral Escentuals and loved it. As a less expensive alternative I've been using L'Oreal Bare Naturals which I think is every bit as good as Bare Minerals. The key to getting it to look nice is applying it using the "swirl, tap, buff" method. If you just dip the brush in and apply, it will look cakey.

Pour it out into the lid, dip the brush in, then tap off the excess before applying it to you face.

I have the Neutrogena mineral makeup in my cosmetic bag b/c its compact but I don't care for it all that much.

Have fun!
Anyone try Paula Begoun's or Everyday Minerals?

I've been recently using Everyday Minerals and really like it! I got the "intensive" kind and it just blends into my skin so well and covers up flaws better than my Bare Minerals. Also, the Bare Minerals would make the under-eye area on me feel a bit dry and I'm young.... I would feel like I had wrinkles already... but the Everyday Minreals doesn't seem to do this. You can order samples on their website and you just pay a few bucks for shipping. I've been using my samples for WEEKS and they are still lasting! I use the Bare Mineral brushes with it.
I use Everyday Minerals and LOVE it! They offer several different finishes of their foundation and I like the matte version best for me.

They offer a sample kit on their website for free (you pay $3.97 shipping) so you can give it a try and find the colors you want for very little investment! I used to use Bare Minerals, but didnt' like that it left my skin looking shiny and it made my face itch like crazy. EDM doesn't and is MUCH less expensive...
I also use - and love - Everyday Minerals.

It's great that you can get the samples to try them out and get the foundation shade that is *just right* for you. I've found that they have a huge selection of foundation shades and each shade comes in several finishes, so you can get just the look you want.

I also bought some of their blush and eye shadows and really like them a lot.

One of the best things about it is the price - a fraction of what you pay for Bare Minerals.
