Hi there,

I have thick, curly hair and it's taken me YEARS to get my hair to look the way I want it to (the cut has a lot to do with it as well)! I'm always getting compliments on how good it looks (little do people know that it's taken me forever to figure out how to do it). I shampoo and condition in the shower (the brand doesn't seem to make a difference for me). Afterwards, I use a spray in conditioner (herbal essences), and just over a quarter sized dollop of gel (just a really cheap kind--dep or dippity-do), that I gently spread throughout the hair (only using a VERY small amount near the roots). I kind of "pet" it on with the tips of my fingers throughout the hair, then scrunch. Now, if I'm in a hurry and need to leave the house soon, I blow dry with a diffuser, upside down, for about 10-15 minutes, only until my hair is about half dry. If I'll be home for awhile before I go out, I let it air dry for an hour or so, then blow dry, upside down for about 5-10 minutes, and it gives me almost the same look (it ends up slightly curlier if I blow dry without letting it air dry, but also slightly frizzier).
I used to let it completely air dry because I liked the amount and consistancy of my curls, but I find that mousse doesn't hold well enough, and with using gel, it defintiely did end up with a hard, crunchy look, and they were slightly weighed down--not bouncy. The diffuser gets rid of this, so you're left with well defined, but soft looking curls that last all day!
I know this wasn't really your question, lol--but I hope it helped a little anyway!!
