It's best to go to a salon for highlights since they can be tricky at home. I am not sure what your natural color is, but the salon should be able to get a nice caramel color for you. I'd suggest taking a photo so they know what you are hoping for. I used to get caramel highlights or gold, and my colorist was able to get my medium brown hair highlighted like that without using any bleach. Once I started to do lighter blonde, they had to start using bleach to lighten it. I'd also suggest a consultation so you can talk to them about it. You can specify whether you'd like the highlights more thin or chunky, more spread apart or closer together, etc. Sometimes when doing them at home, the colors don't come out right or come out too red.
