Yasmine Users!!!
Feb 16, 2005
Has anyone on here had any trouble taking Yasmine??? Just wondering. I was put on it yesterday.

Do you know how effective it actually is??? Do you guys use a back-up method as well...or just the pill by itself. I am really anxious when it comes to this. I do not want to have anymore kids and would like to be as safe as I can. I have been on the pill before--- Ovcon 35 for a few years and then Yasmine right after I had my daughter to regulate my period., but that is all.

Are all birth control pills the same as in how effective they are to preventing pregnancy??? I know it has alot to do with how well you remember to take them but..... if you are very careful and take them on time...how effective are they?? 9-something %???? Nothing is 100% right???

And one more question--- The "pill" actually prevents the body from ovulating right??? And you have to ovulate in order to have a period so... how do you have a period every month if you are not ovulating????

Thanks
From what I know, when you stop taking the pill on your week off, your body just gets withdraweral bleeding.. as in.. "hey, where's the estrogen that was here before?"..the reason you get a week off is simply to know that you're not pregnant and to more resemble a normal cycle. Yasmin, as in most other birth control pills is over 99% effective(when you use it perfectly). Apparently Diane 35 is not, though.. So, something to watch out for. (Diane 35 was made just to take care of skin problems, but proved to be fairly useful as a birth control, but was not formulated specifically for that purpose.)

Anyhow, there's not *much* need to use a backup method, but I'm sure lots of people do, as well.. better to be safe than sorry, that's for sure, but there are a lot of people that simply go on the pill to not have to think about stuff like that.

All combination pills have the same effectiveness. If you take the pill perfectly, it is 99.9% effective, which is very, very high. Women who do get pregnant on the pill usually missed a pill, or took another drug which interacted with the pill.

You don't have to ovulate to have a period. What you're experiencing is a "withdrawal period" from the lack of hormones in your body. This is also time for the uterus to shed any lining.
