Re: The Depo Shot?!
Sep 25, 2006
There was a girl who posts here who got the shot very recently, but she didn't know about the horrible side effects until after she got it done. She was very upset that she didn't know about all of these bad things that happen until after she got the shot, because, as the previous poster said, you have to wait all 3 months for the shot to get out of your body.

I suggest you do a search on this message board for Depo and see what comes up. I guarantee once you read what people have said about it, you're not going to want it.

Hello, I did not have a bad experience with the depo shot. I got it in april of this year and I was also on prednisone which I had been on for 2 years and I had no weight gain at all. There were no negative effects from it at all. I was given the shot because there was a cervical cancer diagnosis and I had been having periods twice a month so the shot for me was to stop the cycle until I could have surgery in July.
So I know there are a lot of possible side effects to consider, the ones I was most concerned about were weight gain, hair loss and blood clots all of which I was susceptible to for other reasons.
By all means research this because you may or may not have any side effects. I cant say do it or not, just wanted to share my experience. If I could do it all over again I would.
In the end, the only opinion that matters is yours and after researching it and weighing the benefits of getting it against not getting it, do what is best for you. If you need to talk to your doctor and ask questions, by all means do it.
I really liked it! I didn't have aperiod for the last month of the three months. We are planning on having a baby so I didn't have it done again. I hated being on the pill. I would have a period every 2 weeks. I have a medical illness so I have to be on BC. Gotta love side effects of drugs!! I didn't gain any extra weight. Nothing! I wish I would have tried this years ago! Kc
how long after you stopped it were you able to get pregnant??? I too actually didn't mind it when I was on it. Who wouldn't enjoy not having a period right? It took me 2 years to get pregnant and the only reason I did is because I went on Clomid. It took 5 years for my period to return on its own (with the exception of the months I was on the Clomid) and took 9 years for my period to regulate. Just wondering how long it took for your body to return to normal after stopping.
