 Hi all!

I realize that BC effects woman differently but I am really worried after reading through some of these posts....I have tried the tricyclinlow(?) and felt really sick so quit after a few weeks. I told my doctor that I needed a pill that was easy on my stomach and would help with adult acne and he suggested Loestrin24. It's only been a week but the side effects are starting. I feel nausous all day. I have had to take Aleve for a headache 3 times this week and I am really sleepy. I have napped everyday this week... I normally dont take naps during the day. I feel a little "out of it" as well. Im wondering if someone else experienced any of this and stuck it out. I am willing to put up with it if it subsides.... I am nervous about the weight gain, as I am already feeling really bloated....HELP!! Thx in advance!
Any BCP pill you take you should stay on for 3 months before you will know for sure how your body will react to it. It takes 3 months for the body to adapt to the hormones in the pill. Bouncing from pill to pill can make you feel awful. Since you switched from one to another now your body has to adjust to from the other hormones and get use to the Loestrin hormones. Switching to another type soon will cause you more discomfort. If in 3 months this one does not work then I'd switch.

On Desogen I had a hard time sleeping had migraines, lost lots of hair. On Mircette I had the same, Ovcon 35 I slept like a baby but gained weight with no migraines. Loesrtin 24 FE gained more weight no migraines started to get acne last month really bad, stopped having my periods and sleep better. I am not stressed at all on this pill. No mood sings what so ever. I stopped loosing hair and I am very nice except when I look in the mirror and see all the weight I have gained then I get angry.
Everyone is so different, it just amazes me what all the diff Pills do to people.

Loestrin is the only one I've tried with no weight gain. But I don't know that I sleep that much better on it. Levora is another mild one for me but on that one I do gain a bit of weight. There's so many different ones to choose from, surely you will find the right one if you stick with it all.

Many women exp migraines from not enough estrogen when it drops in the cycle. You must be sensitive to estrogen or the progesterone or both. Do give it enough time to work itself out, though.
Thanks for the response! I think I will stick it out as long as I can!
Quick update....

I have been on Loestrin24 for 2 weeks and 2 days today (to many). I am stopping today as well... Not to freak any one out but for me, since day 2 I have been really sick to my stomach. I have been overly exhausted, even getting a coffee mid day just to get through the evening. I was dizzy for the frist couple of days, that went away but now I feel super emotional. I have had headachs, been crying, arguing with my boyfriend, snapping at others....I feel like I am on the verge of a break down.... I really tried sticking it out through the end of the pack but I am not going to make it. I wake up in the morning still tired and my sleep is restless.... It is so weird... I feel completely out of my eliment. I am nervious about how stopping the pill 2 weeks in will affect my body.....??? Anyone know?
I took my last pill today and will stop. I was extremely sick the first week or so. Then I got my period on week three and it hasn't stopped. I thought it was supposed to regulate and make the periods less. Plus myblood pressure has gone up so I'm stopping.
Good Luck!
Kathy
I just hate this pill. I know I posted on a previous thread about this, but I can't stress it enough. The weight gain is unbelievable. I have never gained weight on OTC, OTC Lo, or Yasmin. In fact, I lost a few pounds initially on all of them. I have been on it for six months and, I just keep expanding. I have cut calories (keeping a food journal), increased my exercise, and even cut out frequent alcohol consumption. A pair of pants I wore a month ago hardly buttoned and dug into my [new] mid-drift bulge. My breasts are so swollen and tender to touch. And my moods are out of control--which I think is mainly due to the excessive weight change (it angers me beyond my control). I am going for my pap test tomorrow--I can't wait to switch back to Yasmin. I'd rather deal with break through bleeding. I wouldn't recommend this pill to ANYONE. There is something un-natural about never getting a period anyway.
I so agree. I don't know if me changing from Desogen to Loestrin FE 24 caused me to loose so much progesterone in my body but lack of progesterone causes weight gain. I also found out at my last OBGYN visit that PCOS may occur when a woman doesn't ovulate. I so wan't ovulating. It's been 3 days that I have been on Ortho Cept the name bran of Desogen so it's to early to tell if this will help my progesterone go up. On a good note the swelling in my ovaries and the fibriods I got while on Loestrin have gone down greatly. Still a bit sore but not swollen anymore. My breast lost their fullness but that's ok if the weight goes too.
I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for 2 years and was fine. I was actually hesitant to try Loestrin 24 FE but for whatever reason i let my GYN talk me in to trying something new. Within 1 week of starting the new pill I had symptoms of a blood clot. By the end of the month multiple blood clots were found in my right leg. I have to take coumadin for the next 6 months. I only wish i had just stayed on the old pill!
My Dr just took me off the Loestrin24 today. I have gained almost 27 pounds in the past 5 months and have problems with bloating. I started developing irregular periods. I was told that this pill causes your utrus lining to become unnaturally thin and it can cause irritation of the utrus.

The first Dr that prescribed it just gave it to me, and ever time I called with problems she blew me off. I actually had to get two more opinions, and both advised against Loestrin24 for me and suggested another pill.
:) Hi again!

Just another update.... I have been off Loestrin24 for 9 days now. I am still a little bit graggy(sp?) when I wake up but feel so much better over all! I had some break trough bleeding that lasted for 2 days but other than that- nothing to complan about! I am going to try the Ring next. I think it will be better since nothing will be flowing into my blood stream. That pill was just to much for me and I am glad to feel normal again!! :D
---------------------
I want to share my experience, even though I took Loestrin24 FE for a different reason. I was about to start fertility treatment, and most doctors put women on BCP first to "down regulate them" so that everything is nice and quiet and to facilitate scheduling. But because I did it for fertility treatment, I actually had close monitoring so I know that is actually happening to my body; and you may find it interesting too.

I was first on BCP for a little over 2 weeks. My breast became very tender (and fuller). I never knew what breast tenderness was about before. I felt very bloated. I seemed to get really tired in the evenings, had more tension heahaches, seemed to crave food more, and had no sex drive. 3 days after I was off BCP, I went to get my baseline ultrasound and blood test so that I can start fertillity medicine. What do you know, I managed to grow a huge cyst while on BCP on my right ovary in those 2 weeks, and my estrogen level shot up to 548 (25-75 is the norm). Now it has to be the BCP because I took another blood test the day before I started BCP and my estrogen level was 55, and through ultrasound around that time period I knew that I didn't have a cyst prior to BCP. A week after I found out the ovary cyst, I also had a breast ultrasound done and found that I have 2 small cysts on my left.

The doctor ordered me back on BCP after the baseline U/S since I couldn't start fertililty drugs due to the cyst. My spotting continued for close to two weeks. Then my real period seems to have come. So I made a decision to take myself off Loestrin, and I'm happy that I'm off it.

So feeling "bloated" etc may not just be your "feeling", could be that you have these cysts. Weight gain could be extra fluid retention. What I had is a fluid one, so it's supposed to go away on its own after a while. But if you have these "side effects" for long enough period, you probably should be cautious, because there may very well be physical ailments behind these "adjustments".

I always thought that I am an outlier in my response to certain drugs, until I read this site.
The normal range for estrogen changes each week.
Days 1-10 61-394
Days 11-20 122-437
Days 21-30 156-350

I just had mine done on the 1st and of May. The numbers change for the progesterone too each week . The numbers are different than estrogen.

It's a very low dose pill. I hate it and will never go back on it or an other 24 day pills.

EDIT: while on Lo FE 24 my estrogen for days 11-20 dropped below the normal to 119 and my Progesterone dropped below normal with a negative -0.02 The normal range for the progesterone on days 11-20 is 4.4-28.0

Hi krysten247,
Has the side effects stopped now? Are you still nauseous and really sleepy? I just started Loestrin 24Fe and I am sooo dizzy. I'm 30 and have been on BCpills all my life. I switched to this one to help with the migraines and libido. But, I can't stand this dizziness!! Did yours stop?
Thanks!
I am on my second pack of loestrin 24 fe. The first month I was not so happy, but I was using the depo shot! Now I feel great! My boob are bigger:) my Head
stopped hurting and I lost weight!!
ok maybe i shouldn't be posting this here yet... but i've really come to see and understand that everyone reacts completely differently to birth control pills so i thought i'd shard my experiences.... i'm trying loestrin next so i guess i'll be able to report back on that soon... i started with orthocyclen (regular one, not the tri) and i hated it... i was dizzy all the time, headaches, and was having issues with "inflamation"... my wrists, my ankles, hemorroids, even the acne i was trying to get rid of! instead of just gettign a pimple, the whole area of my face swelled up. i stopped it and everything went back to normal. on a positive note i think i was in a better mood and my breasts felt like they may have possibly been increasing in size (i'm a small a, this was part the reason for me starting bcp, the other was acne!!! i've tried everything and cannot get rid of acne so i figured bcp was my last hope) but that was it... so next i tried lo-ovral... eh. i had a lot of headaches... and i got really lazy... i quit the gym right after starting this pill and i was always just down.... i stayed on it a good few months and finally switched.... next is alesse. alesse wasn't bad... my mood is fine... it's pretty stable and my libido (which tanked on lo-ovral) is up again... no headaches either.... only thing is i gained a ton of weight... i am ALWAYS hungry... always... and i eat relatively healthy... but this pill is OK for me. the weight gain can happen on any pill, could just be cuz i stayed on this one the longest. however, i'm switching because my acne is still not clearing up (ok and my boobs despite my weight gain haven't budged a drop, but i've mostly lost hope on them, i'd at least like the skin to clear up). my doctor says i should try loestrin before yasmin (i wanted yasmin but she said it has more risks and should be a last resort). my fear though is that i won't get my period. it was relatively light to begin with, on the bcp it's MAYBE 3 days, sometimes just 2 as it is... if that's the case, i'll be too paranoid to continue with loestrin even if my skin gets clear!

but my point is just that you really won't know til you try.... i feel like everyone i know goes on ortho, gets nice boobs, clear skin, is hapy and loves it. i was miserable. so you really can't go by what anyone else experiences. nd doctors don't seem to like to admit that somethings can be side effects of the pills, they can! if things start to feel weird, stop taking it and use another method of bc until you can find something that feels better.

hope that helps someone.
Omg I Dont Like Loesrtin At All..the Only Plus Was That I Got Bigger Boobs And Very Light Period ..but I Want Off Soo Bad. I Have Gained Alot Of Weight! I Have Horrible Stretch Marks And I Have Alot Of Mood Swings! Dont Recomand To Anyone.
