... I cannot answer too many of your questions because I don't use an IUD, but you are right that antibiotics can weaken the IUD's effectiveness if it is a hormonal IUD. This is the same with the pill, which is of course, also hormonal. To be on the safe side while taking antibiotics, use an additional bc, such as a condom.:) (4 replies)

... I have a paragard too. Antibiotics do NOT decrease the effectiveness. There are no hormones in the paragard, its copper wound on plastic. Copper is a strong spermicide, so basically it kills sperm before they even get anywhere (they think this is the main reason why it works). The other reasons why it works so well is that it can prevent sperm from getting into the fallopian... (4 replies)
