Blood and Blood Vessel Message Board

Blood and Blood Vessel Board Index

Hi. I know the frustration you're feeling. I also got my first blood clot when I was 18(I'm now 39) and have been living with the pain ever since. Unfortunately, there is no cure for blood clots. Over the last 20 years, I've had 4 blood clots--3 in my right leg and 1 in my right groin area(right where your leg bends at the hip). I will be on coumadin the rest of my life and have to have blood work done every 2-4 weeks for the rest of my life. I also know about trying to deal with small kids during this--I had twins 4 months before I got my first clot. Is your doctor doing pro-times to monitor your blood? Do they give you anything for the pain? Mine isn't depression, it's anxiety attacks from dealing with this. I take coumadin every day, am also on darvocet(for the pain), and xanax(for the anxiety attacks). Have you had a scan on your leg to make sure you don't have another clot? I've been told that the pain is something that I'll just have to live with. I rest when I need too, elevate my leg to help the blood flow, and just do what I can at my own pace. My twins are now 20, but I have a 6 year old son at home too. Make sure you express your pain to your doctor and make them listen--most of them don't know that much about blood clots. It will get better, you'll have good days and bad days, just listen to your body and rest as often as needed. Take care.
