... Mr. Dr. wants me to try Avapro. I haven't taken the Diovan in two days and I think I'll wait until at least tomorrow to try it. I've been on the Diovan for about 8 days, so I hope it's o.k. to not take anything until tomorrow. ... (7 replies)

... I am presently taking Clonidine .1mg 5x's/day. I am very sensitive to drugs and have tried so many of the bp medicines but get all the side effects. I am having a hard time controlling my bp because I think I have built up an immunity to Clonidine. My doctor had me on Diovan 80mg 2x's/day. I would get such rushes and fast heart rates it was terrible. The clonidine would... (1 replies)
... I agree with ZUZU that the ARB class is the one you should look at. If you don't get enough lowering with them then it's common to add thiazide (a diuretic.) Your choices are many and side effects are minimal (though definitely still present): CANDESARTAN ( ATACAND, *ATACAND HCT) EPROSARTAN ( TEVETEN ) IRBESARTAN ( *AVALIDE, AVAPRO) LOSARTAN ( COZAAR, *HYZAAR) ... Lisinopril vs ARB?
Jan 26, 2004
... Hi All, talked to my doc today. He had originally prescribed lisinopril but after reading the boards I asked him about ARB's and he said if he was on something he would be doing Diovan. He, therefore, gave me the option of lisinopril diovan (or cozaar, avapro). Any thoughts on the best of the bunch. My numbers are not very high, prehypertensive to mild hypertensive (diet and... ... I haven't taken it but I take benicar (another ARB). Avapro is a little more powerful than diovan and benicar (lowers BP more) and from what I have read has little or no side effects (or similar to diovan and benicar). (1 replies)
... Hi Weez- Micardis (generic: telmisartan) is an angiotensin 2 receptor blocker. You'll find a lot of people of this board who are great fans (including myself) of this class of drug for hypertension. I take Diovan..same class...same action and have NO side effects. This class of drug seems to have the least amount or reported adverse reactions. Tried a lot of other drugs... (5 replies)
... they are similar to ace drugs and there can be some cross sensitivity but it is rare. Ask your doc if he will write for benicar, diovan, avapro and give them a try. You could also try a diuretic like clorthalidone or another hydrochlorthiazide and see if you tolerate them. ... (2 replies)
... Ace...Yes I too agree with zuzu and also find the fact only certain brands are excluded. I take Avapro and hubby takes the generic of Cozaar (Losartan) and son takes Diovan. We all are Diabetic. I noticed one thing about the NON cancer causing ones, except for Cozaar which just went generic in April of last year all are very high priced. Are they leaning towards the cheaper... (12 replies)
... Caution Flags. In regard to JJ mentioning taking ARB's, the interesting thing about the article is, they really only mention certain ARB's. Apparently, Cozaar, Avapro and Diovan do not show this cancer increase. All drugs are not created equal. In this particular study, the patients were Diabetics, should this really matter? ...
