... blocker and hydrochorothiazide diuretic. ... (1 replies)
... Hello Fam, Thank you for your great practical advises, I will treat them as gems! By the way don't take those extra calcium tablets of course (you can also get hart rhythm problems from them, it feels like this: restrain and then boom). Flowergirl, Again a great overview and road map within what is feasible thank you! (8 replies)
... Redness or skin problems are a side effect/allergic reaction of hydrochlorothiazide (hct)and should be reported to your doctor. HCT is a diuretic and as such should reduce the "puffiness" of your body whether it be eyes, ankles, wrists, etc....just depends on how much water your body has retained. Bethsheba (10 replies)

... Flowergirl, Your question simply reminds us not to use "jargon" because not everyone is familiar with the terminology. I get very frustrated when acronyms (initials for a word) or other short cuts are used...thanks for keeping us on our toes! Bethsheba PS And yes, it probably IS the meds! (10 replies)
... Less than a week on this med and my cheeks feel rough, like an allergic reaction, but on another note, my face looks less puffy, specifically my eyes. Thought it was from allergies. Maybe not. (10 replies)
... Thank you all for your input. I appreciate all the comments and welcome any others. I dont know if Im sulfa sensitive. I dont know about the salt sensitive either. I guess I will just have to take a chance and watch out for those things. How would I know ahead of time. Thanks again. (5 replies)
... Good things eh, 1. Okay, IF you are a salt sensitive hypertensive, it is one of the two best drugs on the market...NOTHING worlk so well as HCTZ or Lasix. 2. It makes your scale kinder to you in the morning 3. It eases any painful joints you might have. Alas, the downsides: 1. If you are NOT salt sensitive, the drug doesn't do much good for BP. ... I got a allergic reaction to HCTZ when I first took it but then when I had it made up without the dye & other additives I was able to take it. HCTZ was my drug of last resort since I couldn't the others. The only problem I've had was when I got a cold & didn't feel like eating. So my potassium got too low. You have to eat whether you feel like eating or not when you're on a... (5 replies)
... I take the same amount of HTCZ as you are. I am fine, it is actually very necessary for me to keep my BP down, most other things are not enough and I end up using HTCZ with the other meds. I was off it for about 9 months using only Lotrel, but have recently added it back in. You will go to the bathroom more frequently, so be sure to take it early in the AM so you can sleep... ... Hello Modularman: Can't say anything good about HCTZ for my self, it caused all types of problems about 3 months after taking it. I got itchy rash and muscular pain. My pain was very bad in my feet and chest, thought it was my heart. The Doctor put my on Lasix 20mg, hope it's enough. I think that Lenin could answer most of your questions. Hey Lenin, what do you think. ... (5 replies)
... The Dr. just added 12.5 a day of this to my already atenolol. I dont like any new meds as most people complain. I read a lot of dizzyness. I would rather have pain. Does anyone have any good thins to say about this. I read about too much sodium loss and potassium etc. Whats up before I start mine. thanks everyone. (5 replies)
... just realized what it is. Feeling pretty dumb. Blame it on the meds. (10 replies)
... Bethsheba, what is hct? I noticed that you guys have different brand names from us. thanks. (10 replies)
... Flowergirl, I've found that keeping notes on those sheets is very helpful, especially when going OFF of a med. I only wish I had kept notes when I first went ON a med as that first med was a doozy--hct. Bethsheba (10 replies)
... flowergirl, Yes, indeedy...short term memory loss is one of those side effects...I really appreciate hearing this from someone else. Friends who listened to me repeat the same "story" a second and a third time just didn't understand. What I don't understand is that, at times, for some odd reason, I knew I was repeating myself. Makes me think of my mother's memory... (10 replies)
... Thanks for the tip regarding keeping records of the side effects of various drugs. I am being taken off Lipitor as of tomorrow night - at least temporarily-(after the bloodwork is done) and this information might come in handy. One cannot rely on one's memory if on too many meds....because, of course, short-term memory loss is one of the possible side-effects (10 replies)
... Claire, Fast heartbeat is a side effect that should be reported immediately according to the drug sheet that came with my hct. Do keep (and REFER to) those sheets that come with your meds...I refer back to mine regularly. I also keep the sheets from meds I no longer take because it's handy to have a record of my "side effect" history when the doc puts me on a new med.... (10 replies)
... Claire, Generally speaking, an increase in heart rate is not one of the usual side effects of HCTZ. But there are two caveats: 1. After taking it for a while your blood electrolytes can get out of whack...primarily low sodium and low potassium. Have these checked. 2. IF you notice that you get a little swoony when you stand up quickly, you could be suffereing... (10 replies)
... Does anyone know if one of the side effects from Hydrochlorothiazide is an increased heartbeat?? I am taking this diuretic for HBP and it has really helped with my numbers, but sometimes I feed like my heart is "racing" and it really scares me. Anyone else experience this feeling? (10 replies)
HCTZ & side pain

... I am on 12.5 hydrochorothiazide (HTCZ) since January. I have had lower side pain since about that time. Could the two have something to do with each other. Anyone else experienced this problem? (0 replies)
