Brain & Nervous System Disorders Board Index

Hi,

I posted here a while back about CT scans versus MRIs. I recently was referred by my eye doctor for an MRI after experiencing visual disturbances (bright, sparkly dots, steadily increasing) for over a month. I had the MRI this morning.

I went in with a slight headache in the right side of my head near the back, where I usually get headaches. It was slight, so I ignored it (I'm used to headaches because I almost always have one). As soon as I got in the MRI scanner and they started the scan, I noticed that my slight headache turned into SEVERE stabbing pain, very localized (could have pointed to it with one or two fingers). I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to interrupt the scan.

This was before the contrast was added. The headache stuck around for a while after. It went away for a few hours with an ibuprofen. Now it's back (as usual). I went right to bed after the MRI because I was very dizzy, too.

They couldn't tell me right then if they saw anything. I didn't get any impression either way. I should get the results of my MRI on Wednesday morning.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with the headache or has any opinion about it.

I guess I'm posting partially because I'm frustrated. I've had the symptoms of the visual disturbances, which are scary because I only have one eye, headaches that almost never go away, and a feeling that something just isn't quite right. I had a CT scan that was negative about a month ago. Now I've had the MRI and see a neuro-ophthalmologist on Wednesday morning. I don't want to sound crazy, but I almost feel now like I'd be aggravated if nothing showed up on the MRI. I don't want there to be something wrong with me, but I'd sure love to know where these symptoms are coming from.

Anyway, thank you to whoever actually reads this through! And thanks in advance for any replies.
