Brain & Nervous System Disorders Board Index

Hi everyone

The oddest thing has happened to me and no-one seems to be able to help me - i.e. my own gp and numerous specialists. This is my first post and I am wondering if anyone out there as heard of anything like this or can give me some advice as I just don't know where to turn...

Approx. 3 months ago I was staying over at my boyfriends house and I was preparing some food in his kitchen. His mum turned the microwave on to do some cooking. I was approx. 1 foot away from it and air from the fan underneath was blowing into my face. Thought nothing of it as it was happening, but instantly as I walked away my eyes felt stunned and in lots of pain.

The next day I woke up feeling really odd - dizzy/motion sickness and dull weight around the front of my head.

Well you can imagine this was really scary! I have had these vertigo-type symptoms ever since. Then a month afterwards my fingers starting jolting, hands shaking, becoming really forgetful, right foot feels abit weak (but not numb) and my legs feel fluey-achey. I have not felt right since the incident and I feel the microwave has done something to me. I wasn't sure where to post because my symptoms come under various categories (i.e. my eye problem), but I feel that the microwave has attacked my nervous system (or something). Seen numerous eye doctors and a neurologist this week - none of them think anything is wrong with me. They think I have picked up a bug around the same time as standing next to the microwave and I'm coming to the wrong conclusions. But I know myself and I know it's more than that.

I have had all my hospital appts now and I am no better off. Has anyone heard of anything like this? The neurologist just did reflex-type tests on me and I have had no scans. I am wondering whether to go and get a second opinion or something...?

Oh and the microwave is 25 years old (did they really make them then!) and there is apparently no radiation leakage.

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Sx
