I don't know what it is, but it's keeping me awake at night.
Started about a week ago. As soon as the room is quiet, my head starts buzzing. It actually sounds like the high-pitched electrical humming that a refrigerator might make but it's not our refrigerator. At first I thought it might be my heartbeat because the sound I'm hearing is very rhythmic, but when I checked it against my pulse, it didn't match. I put my hands over my ears to see if that would muffle the noise but it didn't. The noise is coming from inside my head.

A couple of weeks ago I had a painful workout on the hack squat machine at the gym. I was pushing my second set to failure when I got a sudden and excruciating pain in the back of my head. I had to stop and get off the machine. A few minutes later, when I was on another machine, about to reach failure on the second set again, it happened again. This time I ended my workout. I had a mild headache after that for the rest of the day, and again the next day. It took a full week before my neck and the back of my head completely stopped hurting. Other than that, I felt fine. Do you think the buzzing noise could be related to that day at the gym?
