So sorry to hear about your mom. My mother just died over a month ago from pancreatic cancer. Her tumor was in the head of the pancreas which caused jaundice, diarrhea, and her skin was constantly itchy. She went in for a whipple surgery but was unsuccessful because of the location of her tumor so she had the bypass surgery. She lasted 17 months which her doctors called her a miracle but I believe it was her will to survive, faith and positive attitude.

To be honest with you I didn't know when the end was coming until it happened. As I look back there were definite signs but because she never complain and the doctors never had a serious talk we didn't know. During her last final days she ended up in the hospital because of severe abdominal pain which when they did a cat scan there was a blockage in her intestines and also the cancer had spread to her liver. Within the next couple of days they tried getting rid of the block but couldn't and then her kidneys began to shut down - she hadn't urinated in a couple of days. Her legs became more swollen with fluid and her toes and feet were turning blue. Her pain was increasing and on her last day they put in the morphine drip. She also thought other people were in the room and was very confused. Her breathing had also changed where she was breathing out heavier than breathing in.

We were in the same situation as you my brother lives in Texas and we didn't know when to call him not knowing how long and when .... The nurse did ask us if everyone was present (her kids) and we told her we had a brother in Texas. He was on his way but she didn't make it. She died the day before he came home.

Cherish your time with her and just be there for her for whatever she needs.
