Re: Hip surgery
May 1, 2003
My daughter is 6 years ol and is spastic quad CP. She is having the hamstrings, adductors and hips done next week. I can post afterward, maybe before you get surgery, you should try Botox. We started doing Botox when she was 11 mos until around 3 because it started having less and less effect. Then we recently had it done, she is 6 now and it hardly had any effect so we won't bother again. However, one thing I must tell you is the procedure was so totally different pain-wise when done by 2 different doctors. The first doctor, who had no peds experience used just alcohol and every time she saw him or anyone opened an alcohol bottle, she was scared. The second time we were going to University of Michigan hospital and they sprayed some type of solution that numbed that spot and she never felt any pain. It was great. She also had her crossed eyes corrected, even though the doctors here in this small area said it wouldn't matter, she was actually losing her vision in one eye because sometimes crossed eyes have one that is dominant. She also has the Baclofen pump. What a difference, I wish I had been taking her to a big metro hospital sooner. It makes such a difference its unbelievable. I'm sure the botox can help him, I'm sure if you suggest that numbing liquid spray to the doctor, he can find out what it is and use it, it makes such a difference. Good Luck!
