Hi, I only stumbled upon this site by searching the web for info on botox treatment for CP, and was plesantly surprised by the amount of post with regard to CP.

A bit of background info, I'm a mum of 5, the youngest is 27mths old and has Spastic Quadriplegia CP. She was normal delivery, although 12 days over due. Her apgar score was 9 at 5mins and 9 at 10mins. She had meconium liquor but hadn't inhaled/ingested any. The only oddity in hindsight is that we both had unexplained mild temps.

She developed normally and reached her milestones until she was about 7mths old. Where she was sitting assisted and commando crawling but did not progress (all my other kids were early walkers 8 & 9mths) so I thought maybe she was just 'average'. I did have concerns about her 'fisting' and difficulty in spreading or bicycling her legs so I googled it and CP kept coming up.

I went to my GP who also thought it was CP. I got into Early Intervention and the physio and OT started in earnest. I then started visiting the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne where they did an MRI to see when the damage happened, they also did bloods, urine, and x-rays of her neck, spine and hips. These all came back normal, her cause for CP is unknown. I have now been refered to the Genetic Specialists to rule out Metabolic disorders.

My girl has no mental imparment, she is actually quite advanced in her intelligence. Her speech is unaffected, she doesn't drool, or have seizors. I have been told on more than one occassion that she doesn't present as 'typical' CP.

Anyway, I've babbled on long enough. She is scheduled to have botox on her hamstrings and her thumbs and wrists, also she is having a Phenol Obturate nerve block later this month. While she is under the general they are going to do a lumbar puncture and more blood tests looking for Metabolic disorders. I just want to know from older CP suffers if the botox is painful after the fact, if you really feel that it's benificial, or if there is adverse side effects? Does it feel weird or unplesant and how weak are your muscles afterwards?

I'm sorry this is so long winded, but I have so many questions with so little info out there. I just thank the Lord every day that she was born in this day and age and not 50yrs ago.

Thanks for listening. :)
