... I miss NJENN !! ... (5 replies)
... Thank you for your input. I am glad I found this great board. You are all an inspiration and a source of great hope. As for wheelchair racing NJenn, go for it. My greatest hope is that my daughter and I will be able to train for races together. (13 replies)

... I agree, but I think that males were created to be more visual than females. Society has unfortunantly narrowed the definition of what is deemed attractive. When I am more "put together" I usually feel better about myself, but I've never noticed being treated diferently either way. This is nice to hear. What percentage of the dates/ relationships you have had... (78 replies)

... In a way its refreshing to hear someone say that. On the other hand as someone who rarely uses wheeled transportation I've found that for me it has been a little more awkward using my scooter in social situations vs using my crutches. I think this is because its easier for me to get into smaller, semi inaccessable places with my crutches. I hate making people feel... (15 replies)
... Very true. But easier said than done :) Yes, people tend to classify their disabilities *very* subjectively, but OTOH nobody outside the medical community has heard about that GMF Scale, so it's not that informative in the real world. (And I'm not even sure that all people in the medical community have heard about it. :) ) I completely understand :) I remember... (17 replies)
... njenn, you have just dropped some serious knowledge. i have been trying to "get" this for several years that i finally have, i don't want to be ab. i just want to be me. we should be happy with who we are, whether our gmf score is 1 or 5. and we will never be truly happy until we accept ourselves, cp and all. shootingstar, i really do understand where you are... ... Laurie, I'm car shopping right now, and see a 2005 Impala in my future... A car with hand controls can also be driven using the pedals. In fact, I insist that when other people drive my car that they use the pedals. Just because it's easy for me, doesn't mean that it's easier for someone else. NJenn, I have been really in need of a car too...I feel as I'm... (16 replies)
... I'm so glad my suggestions have helped you!!! :) Most major hospitals rehab psych staff. If you look up your hospital online, you can usually find a listing of staff. That's why I left home, went to college, learned to drive, and became gainfully employed. Our parents will never truly understand what it's like to live this way, and usually aren't able to provide the... (44 replies)
... Wow Njenn your suggestions are great they have really open my eyes and I am going to try out all of them. ... (44 replies)
CP & Balance

... Very true. I have long time ago accepted the fact, that if I want to carry two glasses without using a tray, I have to make two visits instead of one. And I just refuse carrying a tray in a staircase. In my own experience, mild CP often feels like some strange monster that stays obediently in the closet most of the time, but tends to make nasty attacks, sometimes all... (26 replies)
Gaining weight

... He does have problems with eating, but he does have a g-tube that I put all of his meds through, also whenever he needs to be supplimented. He only eats about 1-2 jars a day of stage 2 baby food, and 3-4 6-8oz bottles. The doctors don't feel that it is him not absorbing his calories because he would have other symptoms that he doesn't and never has had. I am just frustrated... (9 replies)
... Type "A" personalities are much more common in most with CP, but there are some that are just the opposite, and not just because of thier Palsy. This laziness comes from this person's family not "pushing" or teaching the child to achieve and excel in his or her life, to the best of their abilities... Coming from a non-mainstreamed public learning envronment, I was motivated to... (17 replies)

... NJen, I know a wheelchair makes things more easy. I was just simply saying that so far I've been lucky that I haven't had to use one yet!. I've been walking since I was 3.5 years old and haven't had the need for a chair at this time in my life. I know that it will be a HUGE adjustment if I ever have to use one. And that's when I'll come to you with a lot of questions!!! If... (15 replies)

... Thanks for the replies. They really helped. To answer your question NJenn I used a wheelchair for sometime in elementary schoool then when I entered middle school then I would only use it for long distances. ... (3 replies)
... Definitely agree with you NJenn if it was up to me I would be wearing sandals all year round lol but I can't because I have to where ones that have a full back to hold my foot in so it doesn't slide too much when I walk. Recently I found that Earth Shoes work really good for me. Their sandals are stylish and inexpensive you can find them at Wal-Mart. (13 replies)

... Where are you?? Haven't seen you posting in a while :)...anyway, I think I told you I was having psoas lengthening and you wanted to know if it helped? Well they didn't end up doing that, but I am going to physical therapy now and they gave me an exercise that is supposed to stretch them... Lay on your stomach and try to touch your foot to your butt. Go as far as you... (5 replies)
