... Startle reflex is a symptom of CP, and according to people I've talked to, it is very common for people with CP or their families not to know about it! That seems strange to me, you would think that drs. would mention it, considering it is often pretty extreme like you describe it...ah well, I guess there are so many other issues for drs. to address that they don't think that... ... Yes. And another MUST is maintaining normal weight. Extra weight is always a burden for your lower limbs. I'm a couple of months shy of 34. ... Yes, it is common - many persons with CP have an overactive startle reflex and/or seizures. As my type of CP is very different from your son's, I can't say much about how it feels to be like him, but my advice is that he should be treated as a basically normal child who just happens to have difficulties with moving & communication.
