I was taking Carlson's Fish Oil - 6 per day (3000 mg of EPA and DHA) but quit when my doc put me on Zetia cause I figured that the Zetia would do the trick. Well, it's been 6 months and just had my cholesterol. The Zetia is helping a little bit with my TotalCholesterol and LDL's. But my triglycerides are waaay high now.
Ok, so my doc says to start taking fish oil again. I was thinking about trying the Fisol brand as it is enteric coated, and it's not supposed to give you the "repeating" that regular fish oil does. BUT, if you read about the enteric coated (Fisol brand) it says that you don't have to take as high as a doseage, as it is better absorbed by your body. Now that sounded "fishy" to me...so I asked my doctor. She said that it didn't make sense. Just because something is enteric coated and dissolved in your intestines rather in your stomach doesn't make it "more powerful" or better absorbed.
So...the Fisol tablets only have 150 EPA and 100 DHA (yet it SAYS that it has 500 mg of fish oil...weird)...so I'd have to take TWELVE Fisol tabs per day. But the doseage on the bottle (I read this online) says to take only 3 tabs per day.
Hmmmm...would it hurt to take 12 fisol per day? Has anyone ever used that brand of enteric coated fish oil pills? That is the only brand that I can find that says they are enteric coated.
