Re: Fat

Not quite. There are "good" fats and "bad" fats.

Monounsaturated fats are "good". Foods such as olives, olive oil, peanuts, other nuts, and avocados have monounsaturated fats in them.

Polyunsaturated fats are also "good". Fish, cottonseed oil, corn, soybean and safflower oils are in this category.

Now for the "bad" fats.

Saturated fats are "bad". In this category are whole milk, butter, cheese, and ice cream; red meat; chocolate; coconuts, coconut milk, and coconut oil. All the things you love, right? Read on.

Trans fats are "bad" too. In this list are probably more things you love such as most margarines; vegetable shortening; partially hydrogenated vegetable oil; deep-fried chips; many fast foods; most commercial baked goods.

If you want to know what you are eating, learn to read and understand food labelling and the list of ingredients of processed foods. Avoiding or at least reducing your consumption of foods with saturated and trans fats in them in favor of foods with mono- and polyunsaturated fats just might help you avoid the perils of high cholesterol in your later years. You are young now and it's a good time to start.
