Anyhow, what's your take on my choices? T.W.
Lovastatin is the generic for Meva cor.
Red Yeast Rice [RYR] is a natural statin and contains Lovastatin.
RYR is available in health food stores and even Wal-mart.
120 - 600mg capsules costs approx. $20.
Make sure you take at least 50mg, preferably 100mg of CoQ10 with any statin.
My LDL cholesterol was lowered from 162 to 104 in 6 months with 1 - 600mg RYR.

Crestor would be my last choice; too many side effects similar to Baycol.
Lipitor would be my next to last choice. Cognitive side effects, anywhere from transient global amnesia to short term memory loss. These side effects are not mentioned in the patient literature, but are bonafide side effects.

Vyortin is a combination of Zocor and Zetia.
Both lower cholesterol, but via a different method.

ZOCOR (simvastatin) is in a class of lipid-lowering compounds known as (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor. The risk of muscle breakdown is greater in patients with kidney problems or diabetes.

ZETIA (ezetimibe) is in a class of lipid-lowering compounds that selectively inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related phytosterols.

In general, adverse experiences were similar between ZETIA administered with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors alone. However, the frequency of increased transaminases was slightly higher in patients receiving ZETIA administered with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors than in patients treated with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors alone. (See PRECAUTIONS, Liver Enzymes.)

Good Luck with you choice.
