I just checked on Qwell. It has Policosonal in it made from barn oat. Policosonal (the good stuff) is made for sugar cane. I've tried policosonal and got terrible headaches. So I guess its to the expensive stuff.

Actually, the pilocosanol in Qwell is derived from rice bran. Policosanol can be derived from sugar cane, beeswax, or rice bran wax, all of which provide the same ratio of aliphatic alcohols (the long chain alcohols that make up the group of active compounds known as policosanol).

Whether it is actually "good stuff" or bad can depend a lot on the manufacturing process, refining and purification techniques, additives, etc. If it wasn't the additives or processing technique that caused you to have headaches before, it can very possibly be that you were taking pure policosanol and your body was reacting to it.

In essence, this is what we do when we use most pharmaceutical drugs-- we find something in nature that produces desireable effects, isolate the compound, and then chemically reproduce it. It is in eliminating all the "extra" stuff where we create numerous concerns for undesireable side effects, as we don't know the purpose/function of all the "other stuff". That is why it is better to get nourishment from whole foods or whole combined supplements instead of introducing one powerful extracted supplement by itself.

"Natural" remedies/products can be just as strong if not a lot more powerful than the traditional medicine our western society has evolved to depend on. Regards.
