High Tri's
Aug 2, 2005
Well I've looked at all the posts here, and looks like mine are the highest. Don't know why there so high, it baffles me...Had the original test done in November when I was in the hospital for chest pains....Doctor didnt find any thing wrong with my heart or arteries, they suspect a pulled muscle, I don't have high blood pressure, most of my life I've had low blood pressure, I'm 4'9 and weigh around 120, my bmi is about 23 , which I know I should loose around 20 lbs.. I've been trying, but I must admit I don't exercise as much as I should, but my diet is good, don't eat much red meat, and I stay away from those nasty fats...here are my counts....dont faint...I was in shock myself!

Triglycerides..650
Cholesterol....285
HDL.............38
LDL..............107
Chol/HDL Ratio..7.5

The doctor put me on Lipator (40 mg) 2 months ago, and I will see him next week to see if the counts have gone down....He and I beleive it is hereditory, being that the counts are so high, also I was wondering if cholestrol has an affect of gum disease?

I'm surprised they got an LDL reading with your Trigs. so high. When my husbands were over 400 they couldn't calculate his LDL.......

Like Cathy said, definitely put a MAJOR halt on starchy foods like pasta, white rice, white bread, pre mixed items etc. U can look up low Glycemic foods on the web to get an idea of things to eat and things to stay away from. I don't know if you are diabetic or not, but hubby is, so that tends to toss the Trigs. high, so U have to be careful. Usually staying away from starchy things and partially hydrogenated stuff has a good effect on your Trigs. I have to get on hubby's case alot as he likes his bread, and even though we eat whole wheat, I know he sneaks in some Italian bread when I ain't around. Also watch your fruits and veggies, as although they are good for you, some, like corn is VERY high in sugar.

Good luck.......

Hi BarbJ,

My blood test last week also indicated my triglycerides were high. My doctor told me to think "SUGAR". Things like ice cream, cakes, bread and even alcohol (wine, beer etc..) will raise triglyceride levels. Even though I take 3,000 mg of prescription niacin, 10 mg of pravachol, fish oil capsules,
garlic, antioxidants (C, E selenium) My triglycerides were 261. This tells me I need to cut back on ice cream on these hot summer nights, and definitely cut back on those cold beers.
