Re: High LDL
Nov 9, 2005
Hi,
My LDL was about 150 8 yrs ago, then I was on 10 mg lipitor for 8 yrs, then broke out with severe itching and full body rash. I had a skin biopsy and it came back allergy to statins.
I have been taking nothing for 3 mths, and it is now up to 150. The Lipitor got it down to 68 for me.
I do cheat once in awhile, but I am basically pretty good. The only thing that I did'nt know the answer to was the chinese food. The only thing that I eat fried is the brown rice. It is a buffet that I go to and enjoy. I mainly eat chow mein, rice, mushrooms in brown sauce, and a mixture of vegtables such as bok choy, carrots, broccoli and shrimp. It is mixed in a lite white liquid.

Marilyn,

What are your other cholesterol numbers? (TC, HDL...)

68 seems like a very low value to strive for, and I don't think anyone truly knows the long-term effects of extremely low cholesterol levels. Perhaps part of your reaction was a long-term effect to very low LDL...

I was on Lipitor for 7 1/2 years when I had a very bad reaction, and I've been off it for almost 2 years now... Some people can tolerate statins fine for a long time, then suddenly experience a negative reaction like yours, or chronic muscle pains or cognitive impairment or neuropathies...

I'm certainly not interested in an LDL level as low as you were maintaining, but I'm taking Policasanol, and in the first 2 months it lowered my LDL by about 15%...
