It would help if we knew more about your blood test...

What was the Total, LDL (170?), HDL (40?) and Triglyceride scores?

In addition to the advise above, I'll add my 2 cents worth:

a) Lose weight if you are overweight
b) Get 30-minutes of aerobic exercise at least 3x/week
c) Cut back on saturated fats (cheese, butter, dairy, fatty meats), and increase monosaturated fats (like Olive Oil).
d) You can eat meat, fish, poultry - just cut out the skin and fat
e) Cut back on processed foods and 'junk' foods and eat more veggies and frutits
f) Avoid 'white' foods (white bread, white rice, white potatoes)
g) Increase your intake of Omega-3 Oils (via Omega-3 Fish Oil supplements or plenty of cold-water fish like Salmon, Sardines)
h) Take 1000mg Vitamin-C (500 morning/500 evening), 400IU Vitamin-E and 800mcg Folic Acid daily
ij) Avoid sugar and sweets - they can cause insulin intolerance and diabetes, which will definitely have a negative effect on your cholesterol levels.

You said that you used to have high-cholesterol, then it went away, and now has come back. That makes me suspect your increase could be diet related... Has your diet changed over the years (more junk food perhaps?).

Be VERY careful with Crestor - it is a potent drug and has the highest incidence of muscular problems of all the statins. If you notice any sudden, unexplained, chronic muscle pain or weakness, I'd stop taking it for 2-3 weeks to see if the pain goes away... Definitely take CoQ10 (Q-Gel is one of the best brands) - 50-100 mg/day while on Crestor to reduce the chance of muscle problems.
