Have you tried niacin (nicotinic acid)? Niacin has been used for lower cholesterol for 50 years. If your problem with statins was elevation of liver enzymes, though, niacin probably wouldn't be a good choice, either, as it too can raise liver enzymes.

I've been taking Enduracin, an OTC sustained release niacin for a couple of years, and have seen no elevation of liver enzymes at all. But that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't.

been there tried that..Liver enzymes went up
