Niacin
Mar 26, 2006
I know many take Niacin in pill form and that others have tried but cannot tolerate it. I was wondering about anyone's experiences eating foods rich in Niacin (such as peanuts, poultry, tuna) to see if that raises HDL.

We all know eggs (another Niacin source) are controversial because they have been considered a culprit raising LDL, but I thought I remembered someone saying that eggs raised their HDL. I wondered if that might be because of the Niacin.

Maybe one would have to eat too much food to get enough Niacin to make a difference, but then, maybe some people only absorb it from food rather than from supplements.

I'm afraid U would have to eat an awful lot of food containing Niacin to get the same benifits as a pill. Most folks take about 1,000 mgs of Niacin, and doubt U would get that from foods. Even vitamins say Niacin, but it is not usually straight Niacin, it is usually Niacinamide, which is a far cry from Niacin.

Sure wouldn't hurt to eat foods that do have Niacin, anything is better then nothing at all. HDL is a lil tuff to raise I think without Niacin, and even folks who take it don't always get the boost they want. I tried a lousy 100 mgs. of non flush and couldn't handle it, but hey, I tried....... ;)
