High Cholesterol Board Index

Well, I saw the doctor today and received the results of my first blood test in nearly five years. Since it had been so long, I really didn't know what to expect, especially since I've been feeling somewhat depressed and have been experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety.

Anyway, here are the latest results:

Total Cholesterol........228

HDL.........................120

LDL...........................99

Triglycerides...............44

Chol/HDL Ratio...........1.90

VLDL..........................8.8

Cardio CRP.................< 0.020

Homocysteine..............9.7

Amazingly, I set a new personal record with that 120 HDL reading, surpassing a previous HDL reading of 113. Unfortunately, the news wasn't all good. This doctor also measured my Vitamin D blood level, and the reading came back low, VERY LOW. Ironically, Vitamin D is one of the few supplements that I had never really paid much attention to. So the doctor wants me to take Vitamin D, a lot of it, for the next six weeks, and then come back for another blood test. He also told me that low blood levels of Vitamin D can increase anxiety. I never new that. Hmmm, I wonder how long this has been going on! I don't know if that's partly responsible for my problem, but I'll do what he says and see what happens. But, as I said, he wants me to take a lot of Vitamin D, between 5,000-6,000 IU each day! I guess if I am able to get my Vitamin D level back up into the normal range, he'll probably have me cut back on it. I just hope that it makes a difference in how I feel, and that I don't run into any problems with side-effects. I just went out and bought three bottles of a Carlson Vitamin D supplement, which contains 1,000 IU Vitamin D and 1600 IU Vitamin A, all derived from fish liver oil. I guess I can't go wrong with a brand like Carlson. It didn't cost very much, either. It was $4.51 for a bottle of 100 soft gels. I have to take 3,000 IU in the morning, and another 3,000 IU at night.

But as far as those cholesterol levels go, it was a pleasant surprise, to say the least! Who knows, maybe feeling miserable, anxious, and depressed is the secret to good numbers! Nah, that can't be!
