.... You may be able to keep up the regimine for 6 months to a year, but you will faulter... you will want a piece of pizza... you will want a BBQ burger or BBQ'd ribs... you will want Prime rib at Christmas. To think you can give all that up for the rest of your life is just plain not realistic.

VentureMan,
I sure hope I am misunderstanding you....
You don't mean that having that A piece of pizza or
A BBQ or A banana split or whatever it is that we cheat
with (from time to time) is going to mess with cholesterol
so much that we are unrealistic to think we can control
or lower our numbers through diet and exercise do you?

Gosh, I am trying to lower my numbers but even after
a short while, I realize I absolutely cannot live my
life without a little cheating on the diet from time to time.
Like once a week. :D Just a little bit.

Actually I was going to ask here on the cholesterol board
how many people have had success lowering the numbers
with diet and exercise....In the few months I have been on
here, I do not recall reading about many or maybe even any
who have.

Thanks!!

There may be folks who can control cholesterol with diet and exercise... but it wasn't me. Even when I was wonderfully fit and trim over the last 10 years, my cholesterol numbers did not improve, except my HDL... and that's directly attributable to low carbs, high protien, and moderate fat intake (Atkins).

While I mentioned what my Doctor told me... in reality, it is never really a snack once a week... because when I cheat, I cheat a lot. I'm talking a week of cheating at a time... and drinking too much at times.

My Doctor's right... there is no way you will continue eating and exercising properly the rest of your life. Heck... how many people do you know that has ever eaten properly... or exercised regularly? I can't think of one, and that's coming from my household where we never have fried foods, all food is prepared and cooked fresh daily, we do not eat out at fast food or restaurants but 10 times a year. But we do have junk food in the house like crackers, ice cream, fruit roll-ups, and chips (mostly for the kid's lunches). We make home made cookies and cakes, so there are plenty of sweets in my home.

While folks need to watch their diet and weight, and to exercise, regardless of health issues... I haven't read anywhere on the internet of folks eliminating their cholesterol problems by exercise and diet.

Wish I could be more positive regarding exercise and diet helping high cholesterol... but my experience tells me this is not a viable solution.
