Arizona77 takes immediate release niacin... up to 1000 mg now. That stuff is relatively cheap... I would give it a try if you can't afford niaspan. I know your husband didn't like the flushing... but that shouldn't eclude you from trying it. My Dad started taking immediate release after I told him of my success with Niaspan. He's older too and wanted to stop the statins. He's doing just fine on the niacin.

There are many folks on this board reporting that they have the same side effects as statins when taking RYR... Statins and RYR are basically the same thing...

Yes being on both 1,200mg RYR twice daily and 1,000mg immediate release Niacin has worked great! As for the 1,000mg immediate release Niacin it was tuff for me for about three weeks. Now I take 1,000mg immediate release at bed time and barley flush anymore. RYR has worked great for me. I have been on it for three years, no issues, no side effects just outstanding results. Give RYR a try. If you can tolerate the flush form Niacin I would strongly recommend it. All the best and hope that you see an improvement in you're numbers soon. :)

Arizona, what brand of RYR do you like to use?
Thanks for the replies. When you say "immediate release niacin" do you mean Niaspan? or an over the counter niacin. Thanks.

Niaspan is time released Niacin available by RX only. Most over the counter Niacin preparations are immediate release form. I take twin labs 1,000mg immediate release Niacin before bed time. I am eager to see how this impacts my numbers and how much this will raise my HDL. I am due for a lipid panel in February and will post my results.
