Yep niacin is a more effective treatment than any of the statins. It does a number of positive things. Increase HDL and shift HDL to the larger more protective size. It also can reduce LDL by up to 25% and more importantly shifts LDL to the larger less harmful size. It also is the only effective treatment for Lp (a).
