Everything but your HDL is in the normal range.

You absolutely need your HDL above 40... absolutely. HDL below this is considered high risk. HDL of 25 is extremely bad. HDL is a big determiner when it comes to risk. Each point of HDL below 40 is a ten fold increase in heart disease risk, as opposed to each point increase in LDL that is only a 3 fold increase in heart disease risk.

Yes, you need either a diet change to increase your HDL... maybe increase good fat like avacado and extra virgin olive oil, or start a medication to increase it. The only medication that is proven to raise HDL is Niacin. Immediate release is best, but most folks can't handle the flushing these causes. Niaspan is a prescription version of niacin with less of the side effect, flushing, than immediate release niacin.

Best of luck. :)

If you do not want to take medication you may want to try Red Yeast Rice which is an over the counter dietary supplement that acts as a natural statin. You will need something to help your numbers and it's best to discuss your options with your Doctor. Your LDL is not that bad but under 100 would be better. Your HDL will need to go up a bit more around 40 or above. Tig 70 very good you need to be bellow 150. If exercise and diet do not help Niacin is most effective in raising HDL but most can not tolerate the flush and I can see why. I personally take 2,000mg immediate release Niacin at bed time per my Doctor's orders and I continue to flush after being on this dosage daily for over 5 months. All the best and hope things work out for you. But definitely talk to your Doctor about treatment options.

All the best

Not sure why you would advise this... his TC, LDL, and TG's are just fine. It's his HDL that is the problem.

Personally, with 25 HDL, I would work thru the Niaspan without whining about the side effects... given the likley results of having to live with a low HDL number without Niacin.

Folks take statins without whining and the benefits of statins totally suck... the side effects of statins are extremely nasty and last not for 45 minutes, but forever.... 7x24!

RYR does you not do you one bit of good with your numbers... not one bit! Don't even know why you brought it up.

Wishing you the best of luck... :)
