Re: Niacin
May 27, 2003
Here are my numbers, I had my first cholestrol test in 1993--
Total Chole was 210 Tri 115 HDL 57 and LDL 130.

In 1999 I had a LHC due to chest pain which resulted in a diagnosis of HBP, which I am trying to keep under control with 2 medications, my vessels were clear and no build up was observed, my numbers at that time were
Chole 284, Tri 264, HDL 53 and LDL 181,

Since then I have bounced around up and down. Was on Zocor for a period of time and in March of 2001, my numbers were
Chole 201, TRI--139, HDL 62 and LDL 116.

My last test was Feb 2003 and my numbers were high due to the fact I had not been taking any medication or Niacin. I could not afford medication, thus the reason I am on Niacin. I know these numbers are not good, but will have another test in the fall.
Chole 319 TRI 302 HDL 57 and LDL 212.

I am 5'6 and weigh 150 pounds, walk 2 miles 3-4 times a week and 75% of the time I eat as I should. I am over 60. I also take a "soluable fibre formula" at dinner time, if I remember, my doctor said that I need to continue to do that as it absorbs my cholesterol produced during the meal. I will admit I sometimes "fall off the wagon". My family has a history of high cholestrol and the only way to control is with medication. Hope this information will give someone out there to reply and scold me. Thanks for any input you wish to list.
