I will add that I am also currently taking 10 mg. of Lipitor. The Niacin I am taking (500mg/night) is NOT the non-flush kind and it's a supplement - not prescription, so I take an asprin and it's tolerable and over before bedtime.

My TOTAL = 150
LDL = 82
HDL = 40
LPa = 107.4
Triglycerides = 246

Input is appreciated!
how much niacin should I take for high LPa? I am currently taking 500 mg at night.
I have been taking 500 mg niacin in the morning and 1500 after supper. I started doing this after reading Dr. Agatston's book "The South Beach Heart Program". I was concerned about low HDL which had always been around 40-42. I get a blood test every three months and the latest numbers are
Total chol 136
Hdl 61
Ldl 68
tryglycerides 15
ratio 2.23

I am not sure what LPA is but the reason I am replying to your post is that I believe you must increase the niacin for it to be effective. I take the regular non prescription niacin and once you get accustomed to it .. no problem. I sugested going on niacin to my doctor and even he has been impressed by the good results. You should go on regular blood tests(every 3 months) if you and your doctor decide to increase the dose............ Good Luck and hope this post was of some help
