High Cholesterol Message Board

High Cholesterol Board Index

Do some research before you start any meds. Some studies show that statin drugs show no significant decrease in heart disease in women. Recent findings have focused on inflammation as more of a cause of heart disease. Did your doctor do a CRP (C-reactive protein) test to check for this? Cholesterol is more of a bandaid that sticks to the injuries caused by inflammation. Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid are good anti inflammatory supplements. If you do decide to take statins, be sure to take COQ10 as a supplement because statins deplete your body of this. I wish you well.
Rudiraven, yes my dr. has done a hs-CRP. It was 9. I know that is really bad. I have Hashimoto's disease which causes inflammation (all auto immune disorders do). I take aspirin every night, COQ10 (30mg a day) and I've only recently started taking Centrum silver every day. I really don't want to have to go on meds for cholesterol. I have to take meds for the Hashi's and premarin. That's already more meds than I want to take. My last lipid was 300 total. I'm a little perplexed myself as to why my CRP is so high. I've always considered myself healthy. Could I be healthier, yes. I'm at a loss.
I suppose the tendency for a fatty liver may be hereditary just like obesity. You can remedy this, however, by losing weight, exercise, cut down on triglycerides and eat a healthy diet. You need to take at least 100 to 200 mg COQ10 to help with the damaging effects of the statin. It may take a while for the effects of the statin to dissipate, if they do. I wish you well.
