High Cholesterol Board Index

You did not mention your diet and exercise habits, which can have a substantial effect on your blood cholesterol.

HDL often increases significantly with increasing exercise. Also, avoid trans-fats from hydrogenated oils.

LDL is raised by trans-fats from hydrogenated oils, which should be avoided. Unsaturated non-hydrogenated fats can help lower LDL.

Triglycerides tend to be raised by sugars, fast digesting carbohydrates, and alcohol, so you may want to cut back.

Loss of excess body fat can improve all of the blood cholesterol numbers. If your waistline at navel level is more than half your height, you may have significant excess body fat to lose (athletes' waistlines are often significantly less than half their heights).

Diet and exercise modification may not be sufficient to bring the numbers into low risk ranges, but even if it does not, any improvement may allow use of less medication if it comes to that.

My diet consists of organic foods, low fat meat, water, and wine. I'm probably in the top 5% when it comes to healthy dieting. I eat a lot of olive oil, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, no trans fats, and minimal saturated fat.

As far as exercise, I'm sweating 3-5 times per week. I do cardio and weights.

My waistline is 36 inches and I'm 72 inches tall, so I'm at the threshold. I could probably lose 5-10 lbs if necessary, but even when I was 72 inches tall with a 33 inch waist, my numbers were very high.
