... My husband, age 54 yesterday, got his numbers back from his Friday test. I don't think they look too good. Total TC 274, HDL 52, TRI 110 and LDL 200. The cholesterol/HDL ratio was 5.27. ... You are at VERY high risk given the #s and family history. A statin is required and it should be a POTENT Lipitor or better yet...CRESTOR. You need to get the LDL (BAD) close to 100 and will require AGGRESSIVE therapy. I would also add regular exercise and diet..high fiber. Fish oil can't hurt either. Good Luck! (6 replies)
... I think you should take the meds ASAP but also reduce any processed foods or fatty foods you may be eating. No smoking or coffee. Stay away from cheese, dairys and mostly saturated fats. Eat whole grains, oats, barley, brown rice. Take Garlic extract, omega 3 fatty acids and at least 500mg of vitamin C a day also 200 iu of Vitamin E a day and a B-Complex and eat fruit. Also...
