... Hi Pat007, Hope that everything works out well for your husband. Yes there is hope! Omega 3 fatty acids are outstanding. I have been taking Omega 3 fish oil daily for the past four years and will not go a day with out it. It offers so much other health benifits as well. Again hope that you and your husband see more positive results. Keep up the good work! (17 replies)
... Good going Arizona! Gives us hope. My husband was switched to Niaspan a couple months ago. The Lipitor at 20mgs. was causing too much muscle discomfort. His numbers after 1 month with 500 Niaspan: (He is still taking 2-600mgs RYR) T/C - 181 Hdl - 53 Trg - 53 LDL - 118 (17 replies)
... I am new to this board and am glad I cam across it. It's nice to know there are other people out there with the same issues you may have. I am a 34 year wife and mother of a loving daughter. I have had problems with my cholesterol in the past but the doctor thought I would be able to control it with diet and exercise. So a year ago I decided to join a bootcamp, exercised 3... ... A few months ago I had my cholesterol tested as part of a life insurance physical, and I was shocked by the cholesterol results. Total - 299 HDL- 53 LDL - 196 TG- 250 For a about six weeks before the test I had been taking 3g of omega-3 and a lot of fiber supplements. Needles to say, the life insurance company was not thrilled with the results. After that test... (4 replies)
... Hi Noel and welcome. The answer to your question is somewhat different for men than women. Age group is considered. Current health conditions are another factor. The guidance (not correct readings) figures in the USA are lower than those here in Europe. Let us know the above info and guidance figures can be calculated. (3 replies)
... For years I have had high cholesterol. 2 years ago I was tested and it was still high. I started taking supplements to lower it but I wasn't consistent with them. My doctor never suggested taking a statin. I tested again last February and my numbers were: Total - 271 Triglycerides - 137 HDL - 53 LDL - 191 This time my doctor wanted me to try Zocor but I refused. ... (6 replies)

... As posted in a previous thread, I was on Vytorin, but was taken off of it in less than a week. I asked the doctor if I could try herbs, and he said yes. ... This is my first post on these boards, been lurking though. For the last couple of yrs my readings have been pretty much the same, high. Jan. of this year they were as follows TC-257 HDL-53 LDL-191 TRI-77 After putting it off for years, the doc convinced me to take Lipitor, so I said I will take a very little amount, so he put me on 5mg per day. I did this... (20 replies)

... I did notice several boxes of Vytorin-emblazoned tissues in the waiting room on my way out. A correction: I have been taking 40mg of Lipitor not 20mg as I previously stated. I am continuing with the Lipitor until I see what the new results are. I did come across my last, previous bloodwork done in 1997. In the intervening period I quit smoking and started exercising,... ... I am really concerned about a recent cholesterol test I took. 2 years ago my cholesterol was pretty good (Total: 173, Tri: 73, HDL:53, LDL:105). However, I just had another test done and my results seem really high for only being 22 (Total: 210, Tri: 118, HDL:56, LDL:130). I'm really scared because the doctor didn't seem concerned, but the numbers seem really high to me. She... (6 replies)
... Hey people. I've just had a lot on my mind thanks to some recent events. I'm a 20 year-old male, 5'5", about 114 pounds. I also exercise regularly, and have done so for the past 1.5 years, and I incorporate a lot of cardio into my workout. In April, my doctor checked my cholesterol and it came back as: TC 246 HDL 53 LDL 169 And I don't know the... (7 replies)
... ...your wife's numbers are not that bad, in fact, probably better than most. If she gets her TC down a bit more, she'll be okay. My opinion. The fact that her doc is trying to get her onto statins with these numbers, just re-inforces my thinking that statins are a cash cow for docs and pharmaceutical companies. I have said that repeatedly. Big Buck$$$$ I think also this... (26 replies)

... Well it is a new day and I think I slept off the blues. Moose, you are so right, got to get it out of your system, then have a darn good laugh. Dave, I'm glad you got a chuckle out of the Witch Dr. thing, guess I had a little humor left in me afterall. As far as the smokes, I hear ya. I don't drink, mostly cause I don't like it and after 2 I am a silly moron, as I can't hold... (14 replies)

... I'm a 46 year old male, 155 lbs. Around 2007 I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. My LDL was 160 and total was 224, so at the advice of my doctor, I started taking simvastatin, 40mg. The first few weeks I paid attention to see if I would have any side effects. I didn't, so I just popped it every day and forgot about it. And it certainly worked as... (5 replies)
