... The gym should help with that. Your LDL isn't horrible, but your HDL needs to improve. Try lean meats, avocado, nuts, olive oil etc......good fats. Your triglycerides are high so you need to cut back on carbs like breads and pasta and sweets. You might want to try a low carb diet like South Beach..... ... (1 replies)

Diet usually has little effect on cholesterol... but... triglycerides are best controlled by eliminating alcohol and sugar, and eating foods low in carbs such as veggies (no carrots or other high carb veggie)... and no fruit except berries. Have you tried or considered prescription Niaspan...? It's great at lowering TG's and raising HDL... and for some, prettty darn... (23 replies)

... much of an impact. Generally, alcohol tends to raise HDL, not lower it. If anything, I'd be more inclined to attribute these changes to his diet. A diet which is high in carbohydrates, especially refined carbohydrates, and foods containing trans fats can elevate triglycerides, and even LDL cholesterol. What is his diet like? ... (5 replies)
