... to start and go from there if required. The fact you still have other meds left over should not enter into your decision. You should take 100mg of Q10 daily with any statin, but I don't know if that help with muscle pain. Good luck! ... (14 replies)
... I've been on 10 mg Crestor for 6 months (as well as 100 mg CoQ-10 daily) and so far so good. In fact, according to the dr. today, my total cholesterol--which was originally 263--is now 156, so yay Crestor! And my original 69 HDL hasn't decreased. I really fought taking a statin, but the echocardiogram I had last winter showed some arteriosclerosis, so I didn't feel I had... (3 replies)

... ngest statin out there...Crestor. If the objective is to simply lower cholesterol, just about any statin will do that. But it's good that you discontinued taking Crestor once you experienced problems. You don't want to ignore these warning signs and end up with irreparable damages. ... (11 replies)
... enzyme Q10 as I always was under the impression statins depleted something or other. The reply I got was NO you only require the statin. ... (3 replies)
... Peter, Some people have a quick negative reaction (within weeks), while others don't get chronic muscle pain and weakness for years - and some never have any symptoms at all. I was on Lipitor for over 7 years before I had my bout with severe muscle aches. However, it was also shortly after my doctor started me on a 2nd med (Tricor). Combining any statin and a fibrate... ... ASU1997, CoQ10 is short for Co-enzyme Q10 - also known as ubiquinone. It is a vital enzyme that is used by the mitochondria in all your muscle cells and aids in the production of energy for the muscles. Statins are known to deplete this vital nutrient, and it is prudent to take some while you are on statins to avoid muscle myopathies. No one ever told me about this... (22 replies)
... All statins are dangerous. Your cholesterol is actually too LOW for good health. It's useles taking Q10 BECAUSE IT'S SO POORLY ABSORBED. Even ubiquinol is not absorbed enough to make a difference. ... (5 replies)

... of his aches and pains are gone. I also know way too many folks that their drs. never told them to take CO Q10 when on a statin, hubby and I were never told. People find out by word of mouth, or the net, then when they ask their dr. they just say, "Oh yeah, good idea". ... (19 replies)
... I've also seen a large Lipitor study that showed no difference in lipid improvement whether taken at night or in the morning....I still do it at night...force of habit! Loosely tied to the topic: Can anyone think of a reason to take Co-Q10 WITH one's statin as opposed to 12 hours away from it? (4 replies)
... Wife, Go to your health food store (or B.J.'s Warehouse if you have one) and pick up a bottle of 100 mg. Co-Q10. Yake one a day. They often help out with leg discomfort, especially when beginning a statin. Sometimes the leg pains pass all by themselves. (5 replies)

... Well, I don't know if they did "poorly" compared with is a quote: One study looked at 308 men who were given a placebo or the statin Zocor for six months. In memory tests and a test involving a complex maze, the statin users did not perform as well as those on the placebo. The difference was subtle but significant, said the study's lead author, Matthew... (11 replies)
... Zetia does not deplete the body of has no direct action on the liver. I must caution you that Zetia is really best used as an ADJUNCT to statin therapy in order to bypass having to increase the statin dosage to accomplish the LDL goal. Zetia ALONE will only reduce your LDL by 18% and Total by 12%. If you can find any way to add a statin..even 5 mg of Crestor...that... (6 replies)

... Imacarbuff, It took me almost one and a half years for my muscle pains to completely disappear once I stopped taking my medicines. I had been on Lipitor for about 7 years, and when my doctor added Tricor to the mix, I had serious muscle aches within months... I stopped both, and didn't notice ANY improvement for several months. My advice is continue the CoQ10, and be... (4 replies)
... Too bad statins and Zetia give you problems. Your #s along with the family history requires an LDL well below 100. Fish oil will only lower the TRIGS...are you sure your TRIG is 19  ..never heard of a # that low (mine are around 75...UNDER 150 IS ACCEPTABLE). If diet isn't working, I would try a HALF dose of the statin Crestor (5 mg) daily, which is as effective as 20 mg... (18 replies)

... jvsn, Read down the pages; there are many, many posts on the statin drugs. Consider anything listed for Lipitor (atorvastatin), Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor, or Pravachol and you will see various opinions. All the drugs are quite similar except for potency. I have had no trouble with Lipitor for 5 years- it improved my blood lipid profile dramatically from near death... (1 replies)
