... My approach now, as I mentioned previously, is to use the SMALLEST dose of statin possible along with ZETIA. You will get the SAME LDL lowering with 10mg and ZETIA that you would with 80mg Lipitor alone. The fact that you can reduce your exposure to a statin is a BIG DEAL in my book. ... (33 replies)

... If you are adverse to statins, and are already taking niacin (Vitamin B3), why not consider increasing your niacin or if necessary going with the prescription brand of niacin (Niaspan)? Your low HDL is probably more likely to kill you than your slightly high LDL. The closer you can get that HDL to 60 the better off you will be. Personally, I think 73 is way too young to... ... That is the same as my Doctor advised. He said I would have no issues with 2,000mg immediate release besides the flushing . I talked to him about this and he told me not to worry about any other side effects. What he did say however is to stay away from Slo-Niacin. When I began my Niacin therapy I asked him about Slo-Niacin and he said he would not allow me to take it.... (12 replies)
