... I took pravachol for 2 or 3 years. It seemed to have the least amount of side effects out of the 3 statins I have been on... but also improved my cholesterol numbers the least. ... I think I started out on 1000 mg a day at bedtime. No problems after a week, so I bumped it up to 2000 mg a day. I believe the normal increase is to start out at 500 mg to 1000 mg a day and increase it only by 500 mg every 4 weeks. I stayed at 2000 mg for a month or two, and bumped it up to 3000 mg.
